Coinciding with World White Cane Day, the acting deputy of planning and human capital of Qom Municipality has appreciated the blind and visually impaired employees of the municipality.
Majid Mohammadreza Khani and Seyyed Ali Bigdeli, Director General of Human Resources of Qom municipality acknowledged the efforts and services of the three blind employees of Qom municipality, stressing that disability is not a limitation.
It is a misconception to assume that people with disabilities are unable to perform important activities due to mobility limitations, Bigdeli underscored.
In another relevant development, the municipality of Qom held the cultural and sports festival of the World Sight Day and White Cane in Bonyadi Park on Sunday.
Attending the festival, Masoud Tabibi, Deputy of Transportation and Traffic of Qom Municipality, stated that Qom Municipality is seeking to implement special plans by the end of the year, including improving pavements and bus stations and making intersections smart.
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on vision impairment, including blindness. This year, World Sight Day will take place on October 14 with the theme of “Love Your Eyes”.
In Iran, October 16 is called White Cane Day. The day aims to recognize the active participation of blind people in society and celebrate their achievements.
