The municipality of Qom held the cultural and sports festival of the World Sight Day and White Cane in Bonyadi Park on Sunday.
Federation of Sports for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Association of the Blind, and Cultural, Artistic and Sports Organization of Qom Municipality were also cooperating to hold the festival.
Masoud Tabibi, Deputy of Transportation and Traffic of Qom Municipality, members of the Qom City Council, NGOs as well as representatives of active associations of the blind community attended the cultural and sports festival.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tabibi emphasized the importance of paying attention to the disabled and blind community’s daily traffic in the city.
He then announced that Qom Municipality is seeking to implement special plans by the end of the year, including improving pavements and bus stations and making intersections smart.
Moreover, Managing Director of Qom Municipality Cultural, Artistic and Sports Organization Abolghasem Moghimi has declared that the organization signed a memorandum of understanding with the blind community.
Moghimi stressed that Qom municipality is required to provide vitality for all members of the society, adding in this regard, as well as cultural and artistic programs for the blind and disabled.
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on vision impairment, including blindness. This year, World Sight Day will take place on October 14 with the theme of “Love Your Eyes”.
In Iran, October 16 is called White Cane Day.
