60 new buses to be purchased for Qom public transport by yearend

Qom Municipality Deputy of Transportation and Traffic has announced that 60 new buses are predicted to be bought for the public transportation of Qom in 2021.

Stressing the importance of renovating Qom public transport fleet, Abbas Zakerian said although the city of Qom is the destination of 20 million pilgrims annually, it has only a bus fleet as the most important public transport fleet.

The Qom Municipality official referred to the refurbishment of old buses as one of the important programs of the municipality, adding that last year two major contracts were signed to overhaul 95 old buses, one with 39 buses and the other with 56 ones.

He went on say that the municipality has put the purchase of 60 buses on the agenda and it is hoped that it will be operational by the end of this year.

Elaborating on how the new buses will be bought, he stated that the executive works of selling 2000 million rials corporate bonds were done last year, and as soon as it is finalized, 50 to 60 buses will be purchased.

Last month, Abbas Zakerian also declared the delivery of 20 refurbished buses, saying that 250 buses in the bus fleet of Qom are now providing services to citizens, some of which have been renovated.
