Qom Municipality takes measures for waste management in Muharram

The CEO of Qom Municipality Waste Management Organization, referring to some environmental problems of plastic dishes, says training and raising people’s awareness are on our agenda in this regard.

Seyyed Abdullah Mirebrahimi made the comments on the sidelines of the Ashura mourning ceremonies.

Referring to Qom city’s position in pilgrimage, he said, “Due to a large number of pilgrims and mourners in the central core of the city, a series of programs have been carried out for better waste management and preservation of the urban environment with the approach of citizenship culture.

He then considered informing and creating a culture of urban waste management as one of the priorities of the waste management organization during the days of Muharram and Safar.

He then added that waste vehicles are stationed near religious groups and complimentary food stations, and measures have been taken to prevent mixing dry waste and food.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted that plastic-based containers are environmentally detrimental to both nature and the health of citizens.

Earlier, Qom Municipality Waste Management Organization had allocated subsidies to Qom religious groups for the use of plant-based disposable dishes on the occasion of the month of Muharram and to maintain the public health of citizens, he stated.
