Municipality identifies & dredges 160 flood prone areas in Qom

Qom Municipality Director General of Coordination and Supervision of Urban Services says 160 flood-prone areas have been identified in the city of Qom.

150 areas that were prone to flood have already been secured by digging wells and waterways, Seyyed Mohsen Mirhadi stated on Sunday.

Referring to the allocation of 180 billion rials to control the city’s surface water, Mirhadi noted that five thousand absorption water wells have been dug and all waterways have been dredged.

He went on to say that securing some flood-prone areas, such as Jamkaran neighborhood, requires the interaction of institutions such as the Qom Agriculture Organization and the Qom Natural Resources and Watershed Management Department.

A few days ago, Qom Meteorological Department had announced that heavy rainfalls will start in the city of Qom from November 4 and continue until November 6.

The Department also released a statement on Saturday, saying that according to the report of the monitoring system at Shokuhiyeh station, the recorded rainfall exceeded 60 mm.

It was also mentioned in the statement that the amount of rainfalls in the stations of Shokuhiyeh ‌, ‌ Kuhe Sefid, Jafariye, Qanavat, Salafchegan, and Dastjerd was respectively 60.2, 32, 28.6, 28.5, 10.4, and 10.6 on November 4-5.
