Municipality of Qom keens to preserve historical identity: Official

The chairman of the Islamic city Council of Qom says Qom Municipality has striven to preserve and protect the historical identity and background of the city.

The history, culture and geographical location of Qom and its eighty-thousand-year-old history indicate its rich, ancient, religious and historical culture, Abdollah Jalali said attending the inauguration ceremony of improving Qom cultural and historical centers on the fifth week of the ‘Qom on the path of development’ plan.

Emphasizing that the preservation and renovation of the historical context is a principle, Jalali asked the authorities to pay particular attention to identifying and introducing these places.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he called for the development of a comprehensive plan for the protection of the city’s historical sites, adding this study plan will enable us to plan for the revival, policy-making and capacity building of the historical context.

Furthermore, Alireza Khaki, the CEO of Urban Renewal Organization of Qom Municipality considered the implementation of reconstruction projects in Qom a necessity, saying urban renewal can also be effective in the endogenous development of neighborhoods.

Improving cultural and historical axes has been the first urban experience in inaugurating development projects with an urban renewal approach, Khaki noted attending the inaugural ceremony which was held on the fifth week of the inaugurations of the municipality’s urban projects.

He went on to say that the renovation approach is a priority for implementing the projects of Qom Municipality Beautification Organization, adding to this end, 21 projects have already been implemented in the area of 110 hectares with a credit of 17o billion rials.

The CEO of Urban Renewal Organization of Qom Municipality further highlighted the importance of renovation in the city of Qom, calling for the members of the urban management to support the implementation of renewal plans.
