Waste segregation from source increased in Qom: Official

A Qom municipality official has announced that waste segregation from the source grew 9 times compared to 2015.

Touching upon a significant increase in the waste separation from the source, the manager of District five of Qom Municipality stated that 44 tons of residential, industrial, and construction waste are collected daily in the region.

Alireza Eghbalian emphasized the active participation of more than 29 people in different teams for waste collection in District 5, saying about 17 million tons of waste are collected annually.

Stressing the importance of developing recycling stations and receiving dry waste, he reiterated that the stations have already been enhanced in order to increase public participation.

The municipal official also referred to the industrial activities in district 5, adding more than four hectares of this region has been allocated to the shoe, wood, stone, and construction materials industries and this industrial aspect has added to the importance and necessity of paying attention to this economic capacity in the region.

Similarly, the Qom municipality had already taken various measures in order to promote the culture of citizenship in the field of waste management.

The head of the Waste Management Organization of Qom Municipality Seyyed Abdullah Mirebrahimi earlier announced that waste management concepts were taught to 2,500 guilds, 3,700 offices, and 100 stores last year.

He had also declared the launch of intelligent dry waste management and collection system named ‘Zipak’.
