On the occasion of the 1978 Qom uprising anniversary, the mayor of Qom, Dr. Seyyed Morteza Saghaiannejad issued a message, marking the Decade o Basirat (insight).
Dr. Saghaiannejad penned a letter and congratulated Qom’s people on the anniversary of the 1978 uprising.
January 9 and the beginning of the Decade of Basirat is a reminder of one of the occasions when the zealous people of Iran once again showed their support for an establishment that arose from divine teachings and arose from the opinions and votes of the people, he wrote.
They drew a line against the conspiracies of the enemies and showed that they will never back down in the way of honor and pride of Islamic Iran, he added.
The January 9, 1978 uprising in Qom is seen as a very important historical juncture because it acted as a precursor to more mass demonstrations in other cities across Iran, shaking the foundations of the despotic Pahlavi regime before finally toppling it in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
