Traffic calming a priority of transportation in Qom

The deputy of Transportation and Traffic of Qom Municipality referred to traffic calming in urban environments and said the priority of the country’s new traffic regulations is traffic calming and narrow roads.

Masoud Tabibi made the remarks at the provincial traffic council meeting which was held in the Qom governorate meeting hall.

The traffic technical committee with the secretary of Qom Municipality is being held regularly since the beginning of this year, he stated.

He went on to say that training courses for high-risk drivers are being conducted regularly with the support of the Qom traffic police, which have received very favorable feedback so far.

Touching upon traffic calming in urban environments and he added that the priority of the country’s new traffic regulations is traffic calming and narrow roads, which should be done by raising public awareness.

He further noted that according to statistics, the number of traffic violations in Qom is more at night than during the day, with the mistaken belief that the police are not physically present in the streets.

One of the fundamental solutions in controlling high-risk drivers is to install GPS in the cars of these people with a judicial order in a two- to four-month period to correct the driving culture among these accident-causing people, he added.
