A member of Qom Islamic City Council says that urban management has striven to introduce Qom as an elderly-friendly city.
Touching upon the importance of paying more attention to the elderly in the society, Masoumeh Amereh stated that with the cooperation of city council and the municipality, Qom will soon be introduced as an elderly-friendly city.
Amereh went on to say that in urban areas, services should be commensurate with the needs and limitations of all individuals, and the facilities should be provided in such a way that the elderly can benefit from urban facilities without dependence or with minimal assistance from others.
Improving the urban environment, adjusting the roads, providing special cultural programs and special transportation services for the elderly are among the requirements that should be considered in urban planning, she noted.
Urban management has already taken different measures to make the city’s services and facilities accessible for all people in the society.
Qom Municipality Deputy of Transportation and Traffic had previously said that the city’s bus stations will be made suitable for the elderly and the disabled in the near future.
Abbas Zakerian stressed that adapting bus stations to the needs of every section of society is one of the municipality’s concerns, adding access ramps will be implemented in the bus stations to make them accessible for the citizens with especial needs.
