Director of Qom Municipality Smart Traffic Control Center has announced the implementation of a plan to make Qom intersections smart.
As a pilot project, Qom municipality implemented the plan in Masoumieh intersection using the knowledge of experts in the Deputy of Transportation and Traffic of the Municipality, Alireza Kangarani stated in an interview with reporters.
Kangarani emphasized the importance of making urban intersections smart, saying the municipality has allocated certain budget for the plan’s execution.
Based on the plan, backup power is provided for the traffic lights and its lights have been converted to 24 volts, so that due to fluctuations and power outages, there will be less damage to the light as well as electrocution, he explained.
He went on to say that in order to make the intersections smart, a solar energy system was used to power the lights, so that it had power and energy for 10 hours during the day, and the batteries support eight hours at night.
Director of Qom Municipality Smart Traffic Control Center further referred to other benefits of the plan as the possibility of remotely managing the traffic lights in order to make the lights green in case of emergency for the passage of ambulances and also removing them from the service.
Earlier, Homayoun Yazdanpanah the head of Smart City Center of Qom Municipality had said “Smart Qom” is the program to transform Qom into a more sustainable and livable smart city for all citizens, businesses, start-ups, public and private sectors.
