The Director General of Communications and International Affairs of Qom Municipality said the Palestine’s flag was raised in the city to show the solidarity with Palestinian people.
Referring to the late Imam Khomeini who named the International Quds Day as the day of Islamic world, Mehdi Kalantarzadeh said Islamic Republic of Iran and the city of Qom have always played a significant role in the commemoration of this day.
In previous years, the flag of Palestine was symbolically hoisted in the Qom municipality, but this year, the ceremony held in all the main squares across the country, Kalantarzadeh noted.
He went on to say that given the coronavirus restrictions and not holding the Quds Day demonstration, we decided to hold the ceremonies symbolically to show our solidarity with the people of Palestine.
The International Quds Day is a legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who designated the day in solidarity with the Palestinians and in opposition to the Israeli regime.
People across the world mark the International Quds Day to support the Palestinian people and denounce Israeli atrocities in the occupied territories as well as the besieged Gaza Strip.
This year’s events held online in Iran and some other countries due to the spread of the coronavirus.
