The Deputy of Transportation and Traffic Affairs at Qom Municipality announced that the fourth generation of bicycle-sharing scheme to be set up for the first time in the city of Qom.
Referring to the launch of the car-free Tuesdays campaign in Qom, Abbas Zakerian said that this campaign has been held for the sixth week with the presence of provincial officials so far, adding that it has fortunately been welcomed by the people.
He went on to say that there are more than 300,000 motorcycles in Qom, and this high number of motorcycles, along with the huge number of accidents, have created unsafe space.
Zakerian stressed the need to develop infrastructures for launching bicycle-sharing system, noting that in this regard, measures are being taken for buying low-cost bicycles and paying in installments.
He then stated that an agreement has also been signed with some banks to provide low-cost facilities for cyclists.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he asserted that in order to promote the culture of using bicycle, a contract has been made with a knowledge-based company for sharing-bicycles with fourth generation locks.
This project is being implemented for the first time in the country and it is planned to add 100 bicycles with this system to Qom’s sharing bicycle system by the end of the year, the municipality official added.
He concluded that by applying his generation of bicycles which use GPS and software locks there would be no need for bicycle stations anymore.
