The CEO of Qom Municipality Waste Management Organization says Qom is the country’s first city that neutralizes all medical waste and then buries them.
Seyyed Abdollah Mirabrehimi made the remarks referring to the activities carried out in the Alborz waste processing complex.
All household wastes of the city, in addition to hospital wastes, are transferred to the Alborz site, and the processing and production of compost fertilizer are also done in this complex, he stated.
He further noted that daily, 5 to 6 tons of medical waste are produced in the city.
50% of this amount of waste is produced by ten existing hospitals in the city. After autoclaving, is delivered to the collecting fleet that operates independently and then transferred to the Alborz site, he added.
He emphasized that the offices, clinics and polyclinics, which have less waste and do not have facilities and infrastructure for destruction and decontamination, their waste collected by two private sector companies under the supervision of the University of Medical Sciences and the Medical System.
The municipality official went on to say that these wastes then are transferred to the infectious waste disposal center daily.
