Municipality of Qom pioneering in renovating worn-out buses in country

Accordingly, Qom Municipality as a pioneer in the renovation of worn-out buses in the country, could bring the city’s bus fleet to better conditions.

Due to the US-imposed sanctions, stopping the bus production line in the country, and cutting off government facilities, the municipalities were not able to buy buses in previous years, but Qom municipality has taken special measures to tackle the problem.

Given the situation, Qom Municipality  purchased 110 new buses which were already existed in the country. And in 2021, it received 2000 billion rials in the form of participation bonds and put the purchase of 52 new buses on the agenda.

Also, there were 270 worn-out buses in the city of Qom, some of which were removed from the public transport fleet, and the rest of them renovated.

Last year, the municipality signed two contracts, according to which, 100 buses were started to be refurbished. So far, 50 buses have been put into operation, and the rest will gradually enter the fleet.

Earlier, Qom Municipality’s former Deputy of Transportation and Traffic Abbas Zakerian had highlighted the importance of renovating Qom public transport fleet, saying although the city of Qom is the destination of 20 million pilgrims annually, it has only a bus fleet as the most important public transport fleet.
