Municipality prepares Qom for Muharram mourning rituals

Qom Municipality has been making preparations for the Muharram mourning ceremonies in commemoration of Imam Hussein (AS).

The preparations include the blackening ceremony which was held upon the arrival of the ninth day of Islamic month of Muharram when Muslims mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).

The ceremony was attended by the director of the Cultural and Sports Organization, the director general of Communications and International Affairs of the Municipality, and a group of activists of religious delegations.

The blackening event was organized by the Municipality of Qom with the cooperation of several religious delegations.

When the spiritual ceremony was held, the municipal service forces of Qom Municipality started the process of installing black flags around the Martyrs’ Cemetery and different parts of the city, including around the holy shrine.

Furthermore, during a ceremony, the flag of the holy shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) will be raised on the holy shrine of Hazrat Fatemeh Masoumeh (AS) later today.

Qom Municipality, Islamic City Council of Qom, Council of Religious Delegations, Foundation for Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, General Directorate of Endowments and Charity Affairs, Cultural and Artistic Organization of the municipality participated in the blackening ceremony of the holy city of Qom.

Imam Hussain (AS) was a 7th century revolutionary leader who led the Battle of Karbala against the corrupt government of tyrant of the time, Yazid, for the social justice of his people. He and his family members were martyred on the 10th day of Muharram over 1,400 years ago.

Shia Muslims all around the world are commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (AS). In Iran, mourners have taken to the streets to pay respect to their third Imam.
