Qom Mayor: Quds Day a symbol of unity

Mayor of Qom Dr. Seyed Morteza Saghaiannejad penned a message on the occasion of International Quds Day, describing the day as a symbol of unity.

Naming the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, the late Imam Khomeini emphasized the convergence of religion and politics, Dr. Seyed Morteza Saghaiannejad said in his message.

Saghaiannejad referred to Quds Day as a symbol of unity, adding its annual commemoration is a way to express support for the Palestinians and denounce Israeli atrocities in the occupied territories as well as the besieged Gaza Strip.

In another relevant development, Nosratollah Lotfi, the deputy chief of the Islamic Development Coordinating Council acknowledged the Qom municipality for its effective action.

He stressed that Quds liberation is not just related to a specific geographical point and it should lead to the formation of a single Islamic nation.

Lotfi also said that in previous years, Quds Day was marked in more than 100 countries by holding conferences and demonstrations, but this year’s events were held online in Iran and some other countries due to the spread of the coronavirus.

He made the remarks at the ceremony of raising the Palestine flag in Ruhollah Square in the city of Qom.

International Quds Day is an annual event held on the last Friday of Ramadan. It was initiated by the Islamic Republic’s late founder Imam Khomeini to express support for the Palestinians and show anger at Zionism and Israel.
