Municipality’s Fire Dep. extinguishes huge fire in Qom alcohol factory

Qom Fire Stations and Safety Services Organization affiliated to Qom Municipality has announced managed to extinguish a large fire at a petrochemical plant at Shokuhieh Industrial Town near the city.

Qom fire department spokesman Hamid Karimi said on Sunday that more than 100 firefighters and 20 firefighting vehicles were immediately dispatched to stop the huge fire in Movaledan chemical factory at Shokuhieh Industrial Town.

KArimi added that despite the volume and intensity of the fire and the presence of highly flammable materials, firefighters quickly prevented the fire from reaching alcohol tanks which would have caused a very large accident if they had caught fire.

Two firefighters were seriously injured and two of the fire trucks battling the flames caught fire and were destroyed at Shokuhieh Industrial Town, said Karimi.

He also pointed out that the Qom Fire Department asked for help from all agencies, including the municipality, the Water Organization, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), by declaring the critical situation.

Given that the entire area of the industrial town and its nearby areas are surrounded by smoke, the town will probably be completely closed and evacuated, he stated.

He went on to say that the heavy black smoke rising from Movaledan chemical factory may be toxic.

On Sunday morning, an alcohol production factory in the Shokuhieh Industrial city in Qom caught fire.
