Qom mayor calls for formation of Union of Municipalities

The mayor of Qom says the realization of integrated urban management is one of the necessities of good governance in cities, which the government and parliament should consider seriously, criticizing not forming the Union of Municipalities of the country.

Dr. Seyyed Morteza Saqaiannejad made the remarks in a consultation meeting of a number of mayors with Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi.

Referring to the wide range of tasks of the urban management sector, he stated that some 372 responsibilities and missions have been defined for the municipalities of the metropolises.

More than 320,000 people are working in the country’s municipalities, which, plus their families, include a very large population, which in turn has caused an increase in sensitivities, the mayor noted.

Saying that the municipalities are walking strongly in the path of the ideals of the revolution and the establishment, Saqaiannejad added that the urban management sector has a significant role in creating coordination and holding events and programs that should take place at the city level.

Calling for the formation of the country’s Union of Municipalities, he asserted, “The Ministry of Interior is expected to delegate the necessary authorities to the municipality institution to advance the goals of urban management.”
