Direct landfilling in Qom reaches zero, says official

The head of the Waste Management Organization of Qom Municipality stated that by the end of September of this year, direct landfilling will be close to zero.

Seyyed Abdullah Mirebrahimi made the remarks on Tuesday on the sidelines of the media people’s visit to the Alborz Waste Processing Complex.

He said that an average of 700 tons of household waste is produced daily in Qom and transported to the Alborz waste disposal site.

The municipality official went on to note that last year, an average of 603 tons of garbage was transferred to the Alborz site per day.

During the last four years, every year between two and 4 percent of waste production in Qom has decreased, one of the important factors is the increase in the economic value of waste and its separation by garbage collectors along with improving people’s behavior in separation from the source, he added.

The head of Qom Municipality Waste Management Organization stressed that out of 603 tons of waste transferred to the Alborz site, 300 tons will enter the processing department.

Of these, 10% of waste is re-separated, of which 9% is plastic, he reiterated.
